The impossibly long reigns are reminiscent of ancient Sumerian antediluvian king lists (a podcast mentions derivative Biblical king lineages).
Joseph Campbell discusses these at length in his “Masks of God.”.

After the cataclysmic flood, the kingship ‘descended from heaven’ moves to Kish. Then, the reigns generally become progressively shorter. Pretty clear Martin pulls from the Sumerian, but gives it a Chinese veneer.
